I must admit I'm a kind of an IDIOT, but EQ8 doesn't sound so dull and dirty I was thinking. I could even reach -50db of null rest (peak) between IIEQPro and EQ8 (for some reason, it's more difficult to reach between EQ8 and Equick). I tested intensively with a 120Hz high pass filter, a 120Hz boost, a 1,2kHz boost and a 4 kHz boost. So the ergonomy will make the difference, not (so much) the sound. Lots of great choices but dont get caught up in the hype surrounding any eq.Īctually, after a lot of testing with the null protocol explained above (trying to get the closest settings possible with phase inversion), I tried a semi-blind way of testing (grouping all eqs in a rack, passing from one to the other via chain selector without watching, so after some moment you don't know which one your are actually listening).Īfter all that I must admit that there is very minimal differences between DMG Equick, DDMF IIEQPro and EQ8. Technically speaking you can get by with any standard eq. I still see some pros relying on the standard eq that comes with protools. Expensive does not necessarily mean better. Aireq is very good but does come at a price if you dont have an ilok. If it feels clumsy it wont matter what it sounds like. Imo choice of eq comes down to ergonomics. With something like Air EQ from Aeiosis, it's clearly different because the features are so nice and the ergonomy looks so great (for exemple the presets system), that I'm sure it will make a big difference (but the ilok2 and the price are ).The eq in mixbox or system 2 is the one Im speaking of. So I still don't know if it will truly make a difference to mix with EQ8 or to mix with Epure. Maybe it's not my ears but my brain : the most expensive, the better for my brain ! Some people say that if you can match the settings of 2 differents EQ they null, but my ears are feeling a difference in quality. Epure sounds different to me, cleaner and more precise than EQ8, but maybe it's only a matter of the specific Q settings and gain system they use. Which eq are you speaking about ?Īctually, it's still a problem for me to judge the sound quality of a digital EQ. I guess the two EQ don't share the same quality. Hofa is selling two eq : the "EQ-parametric" in its mixbox (50€ for all the plugins) and the "IQ-EQ V3" (129€ alone). Checkout EQual and Hofa System 1 which are affordable but provide different features. Pro Q2, Bx_Digital V3, AirEQ, Epure, T-Racks EQual. So I would ask to the more experienced producers and musicians on gearslutz wich alternative to Flux Epure I could get at a lower price, for a 2 computers license. As you have found each digital eq has it varying level of transparency and tone. So I would ask to the more experienced producers and musicians on gearslutz wich alternative to Flux Epure I could get at a lower price, for a 2 computers license. I just missed the recent sale of the studio session pack : I was ready to buy it but when I discovered I would have only one license I did not push the button. The main problem with Epure is the price, and the fact that with one license you can't install it on more than one computer (I'm using 2 computers for music production). I found that the closest alternative for me was the DMG Equality, but it's in another league : to my ears it sounds less transparent, but offers plenty of option Epure doesn't offer. Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe it's linked with the soft quality of Epure, but this is the feeling I had. It's really focused on the frequency you are treating and you don't hear strange stuff around that frequency like with other EQ. There is something strange with this EQ : you need to push it harder to hear more or less the same results as with other eqs, but to my ears the result is definitely cleaner. Transparent and clean EQ of all the other options. I downloaded a lot of demos and I found that the Flux Epure was the most (I'm currently using EQ8 in Ableton, and sieQ and sonimus for colored results). Recently I was searching for a new EQ plugin in the transparent style
